SUMMER STUDENTS – 2025
Introduction to Cassidy Levy Kent (Canada) LLP
Cassidy Levy Kent (Canada) LLP (“CLK”) invites applications from students with a genuine interest in international trade and public procurement law for a summer position during the summer of 2025.
Our work touches all areas of international trade and investment law, as well as disputes arising from public procurements. Our primary focus in on antidumping and countervailing duty investigations (trade remedies) before the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT). In these investigations we represent both Canadian manufacturers/producers as well as foreign producers/exporters to assist them in obtaining either protection from unfairly priced goods or unhindered access to the Canadian market. Beyond trade remedies, we advise clients (including corporations and domestic and foreign governments) on WTO dispute settlement cases, trade policy and treaty negotiations. We also have a very strong public procurement practice that regularly appears before the CITT, the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. Finally, we advise clients on export controls (including under Canada’s Export Import Permits Act, the Special Economic Measures Act and the Defence Production Act) and customs matters.
CLK is a top ranked firm, earning “Band 1” recognition in Chambers Canada & Chambers Global 2024 rankings. In addition to achieving Tier 1 in international trade in the Legal 500 2024 rankings, they commented that CLK hosts some of “Canada’s leading trade specialists”.
Our compensation package is among the most competitive in the Ottawa market.
Job Description and Candidate Qualifications
Summer students at CLK will be intimately involved in all aspects of our work. Day to day work will involve legal research and drafting and economic analysis. Students will also be invited to attend team strategy meetings and discuss active matters with partners and associates on a regular basis. Whenever possible, students will attend and participate in hearings and client meetings.
The successful candidate should have an active interest in international trade matters, economic reasoning and analysis and Canadian trade laws. CLK seeks students with demonstrated proficiencies in legal writing, research and the use of Microsoft Excel. Although prior experience in international trade law (excluding course work) and familiarity with Microsoft Excel are valued assets, these are not prerequisites for employment with our firm because we invest heavily in our students and associates by offering one on one training in all areas of our firm’s work.
We invite interested applicants to submit a cover letter, resume, transcript (law school, undergraduate, graduate, as applicable), a writing sample, and a list of upper year courses to CareersCAN@cassidylevy.com or the viLaw Portal.
Cassidy Levy Kent is committed to equity, diversity and inclusion and takes
several measures in the student recruitment process to further that aim.
While we appreciate and will review every application thoroughly, we will only contact those selected for an interview.
